Signs Your Siding Needs To Be Replaced

Signs Your Siding Needs To Be Replaced

Your home’s siding is an incredibly important piece of your home’s exterior. It provides a number of benefits for your home, including boosting your curb appeal, providing additional insulation, and, most importantly, protecting your home from the elements and pests. With so much to gain from properly installed siding, it is important to ensure that your siding is kept in good repair.  However, sometimes it can be difficult to identify whether your siding is damaged. If you’re interested in learning more about the signs your siding needs to be replaced that you may have missed, take a look at our blog to learn more.

The Siding Is Damaged

Your siding can become damaged in a variety of ways. From cracking, to warping, to rot, to bubbling, there is a variety of things that can go wrong with your siding. Damaged siding won’t be able to properly protect your home, exposing your home to moisture damage, as well as pests. Damaged siding also reduces your home’s curb appeal! Whether you’re going to be living in your home for decades, or you’re putting it on the market next week, it is important to keep your siding in good repair!

Your Home Needs To Be Frequently Repainted

Another sign that you should replace your home’s siding is when you have to constantly repaint your home’s siding. While siding does need to be repainted on occasion, if you find that after 4 or 5 years your home’s siding needs another new coat of paint, there is likely something wrong with the siding itself that is leading to the peeling and chipping of the paint.

Your Energy Bills Are Going Up

If you find that your energy bills are increasing, either from trying to keep your home cool in the summer or warm in the winter, your siding may be to blame.  However, it is important to rule out two of the largest causes of increased energy bills, including a poorly insulated attic or leaky windows.  However, if you rule out the obvious culprits, your siding can be another source of increased energy costs.  If your siding is damaged, either via cracks or moisture damage that has made its way into your siding and the frame of your home, it can certainly contribute to increased energy bills. If you notice your bills increasing and you know it’s not from your roof or windows, your siding is likely to blame.

Fungus, Mold, & Mildew

Finally, be sure to examine your home’s siding and check around creases for any mold growth. Finding mold growing on the exterior of your home can be an indication that moisture has found its way into your siding where it is causing damage via mold or fungus. Leaving this growth unattended can lead to significant damage to the frame of your home, which can be significantly more expensive to repair than replacing your siding.  If you find any mold or mildew growth around your siding, be sure to replace it as soon as possible and take a look at your home’s walls as well!
